Reviews of live theatre being impossible during these days of the pandemic, THEATRE'S LEITER SIDE

Perhaps the best
of the camp-humor spoofs of 1930s movie musicals, Dames at Sea had closed its long Off Broadway run (575
performances) only a little more than a year before this revival. The new
version was done in a cabaret environment where Howard Thompson thought its
cast “The freshest, funniest and most endearing entertainment crew in town.”
The show had
lost none of its tap-dancing bloom, and one could see it for even cheaper
prices than the original. Most of the company had been in that production but
the terrific Leland Palmer was new, playing the role that made Bernadette
Peters a star. Sharing the stage were Janie Sell, Carol Morley, Raymond Thorne,
Kurt Peterson, and Voight Kempson.
