210. THE GRAND MUSIC HALL OF ISRAEL. From my (unpublished) ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE NEW YORK STAGE, 1970-1975

THE GRAND MUSIC HALL OF ISRAEL [Revue/Hebrew and Yiddish/Israeli] CN/D/CH: Jonaton Karmon; P: Madison Square Garden Productions and Hy Einhorn; T: Felt Forum (OB); 1/4/73-1/14/73 (15)

The third Israeli music and comedy revue brought to New York by director-choreography Jonaton Karmon, this show was an assortment of musical numbers presented by a small troupe of talented soloists backed by an attractive, 18-member chorus of singers and dancers. The latter were especially appealing in their frequent numbers, for which they continually changed costumes. Yiddish, Hebrew, and English were used, the latter for a funny monologue by American comedian Myron Cohen.

The selections were eclectic and dealt, among other things, with aspects of life in Israel. Howard Thompson was charmed by the performances and celebrated the show in glowing review that epitomized its joy and warmth as “delightful.”
